ABOUT ME
Assalamualaikum
and Hello
My name
is Noradila Nordin and I am from the School of Computing, Universiti Utara
Malaysia. My area of expertise is in wireless sensor networks and information
technology.
The
topic that I have chosen is Programming Language. I have been teaching
programming language for several years and I found that some of my students had
difficulty understanding it. Thus, with this in mind, I wanted to ensure that
learning programming can be attractive to anyone with or without disabilities
as, for me, programming is fun and it is much more interesting when we can
create some kind of game, for example towards the end of the learning of
programming.
The type
of resources that were developed is videos with closed captions, uploaded on
youtube, and accessible PDF documents that represent the slides used in the
videos.
The
closed captions and PDF accessibility have been checked through screen reading
to ensure both of those materials were developed to cater to people with
hearing disabilities and visual impairment. It included alternative text where
necessary. The reading order has also been checked.
From
this project, I have learned that I should ensure that learning materials can
be accessed by the public regardless of their ability or disability. With the
accessibility within the content or materials, these are useful to cater to
different types of learners, which can be for learners who prefer to watch,
listen or read the closed captions to gain knowledge on the subject.
Using
the content developed as the initial step, I plan to share my iOER by
conducting sharing sessions using these materials as an example of creating a
better iOER that caters to people.
